For me Mark Knopfler doing those Irish Sea Shantys are great. 2 other ship related great tunes is the Aiplane's version of Wooden Ships and Sail On Sailor by the Beach Boys.This is of course if your into ships or related water songs not by the Dead.Being British you should know about what I am talking about....

Natalie Merchant's take on The House Carpenter (trad.) is a nice recent sea song. It's tough to top Fairport's "A Sailor's Life", though.

Seldom Scene's "Boots of Spanish Leather" is pretty damn good and testament to why the world is just a bit darker without John Duffey in it.
